Digital & Electric Piano Repair

Most piano technicians in the Twin Cities don’t repair digital and electric pianos. I do.

Whether you play a Yamaha Clavinova, a cherished stage piano, or a classic like the Fender Rhodes, you deserve expert service that respects your instrument, and the music you make with it.

"Sounds Great Piano Service is fantastic! Dale is thorough, knowledgeable, reliable, and gives great advice for maintaining and improving fine instruments."

When Something Stops Working, You Need a Technician Who Can Dig Deeper

Dead keys. Power issues. Buttons, sliders, or jacks that don’t respond.
Many technicians stop at "replace the board," but what if that board is no longer available? Or what if your current piano is worth more to you anything new you could replace it with?

That’s where I come in.

I specialize in diagnosing and repairing digital and electric pianos at the component level. Whether the fix requires replacing worn key contacts, troubleshooting individual circuits, or just getting your Rhodes or Wurlitzer back in tune, I bring a depth of experience most technicians simply don’t offer.

Why Repair Instead of Replace?

  • It’s a high-end instrument. For premium models like the Yamaha Clavinova, repair is often significantly more cost-effective than replacement.

  • It’s no longer made. If your piano has a unique sound or feel, finding a new equivalent may be impossible.

  • You’re attached to it. Sentimental value matters, especially when an instrument has been with you through years of practice and performance.

How the Process Works

  1. Schedule an Appointment
I come to your home to inspect the instrument or pick it up for workshop evaluation.

  2. Pay a Flat Diagnostic Fee
This covers transport (if needed), teardown, diagnosis, and setup for repair. This fee is billed whether or not you choose to proceed with the repair.

  3. Get an Honest Repair Estimate
After diagnosis, I’ll provide a price range based on parts availability and labor. If the repair isn’t cost-effective, I’ll let you know.

  4. Enjoy Playing Your Piano Again!
When you authorize the repair, I’ll complete the work either in your home or in my workshop, depending on the instrument’s size and work needed.

Who I Work With

  1. Owners of premium digital pianos like the Yamaha Clavinova and high-end workstations

  2. Musicians who rely on stage pianos and electric pianos (e.g., Rhodes, Wurlitzer)

  3. Families and individuals with sentimental or rare instruments

  4. Customers looking for component-level repairs when replacement boards aren’t available

  5. People seeking modifications or upgrades for a well-loved electric piano

I’m one of the only technicians in the Twin Cities offering this kind of service, and I'm glad to help if your instrument isn't working right.

Not Sure if It’s Worth Fixing? Let’s Talk.

In some cases, especially with budget models, repair may not be cost-effective, or even possible. But if the instrument is meaningful to you, I’ll be glad to evaluate it and let you know your options.

You’re welcome to call or email me with details about your situation. I’ll help you make an informed decision.

About Me

I’m Dale Dahlberg, owner of Sounds Great Piano Service. I bring years of experience working on both acoustic pianos and musical electronics. I’m equally comfortable voicing a Steinway grand or troubleshooting a failing power supply on a stage keyboard, and I care about each instrument as much as its owner does.

This isn’t one-size-fits-all repair. It’s thoughtful, hands-on work that gives your piano the best chance to play beautifully again.

"Dale is on time, flexible and great at communicating. Our piano is always in way better shape after his visits and he always goes above and beyond (ex. fixing knobs and cleaning)"
