Frequently Asked Questions
I want you to feel confident about the care your piano receives. Here are answers to some of the most common questions I’m asked about piano tuning, maintenance, and service.
How often should I have my piano tuned?
Most of my customers in the Twin Cities have their pianos tuned twice a year to ensure they sound great and maintain consistent touch through Minnesota's dramatic seasonal temperature and humidity changes. At a minimum, I recommend scheduling a service at least once a year to keep your piano from falling into disrepair.
What’s included in a Five Point Piano Tune Up appointment?
My Five Point Piano Tune Up includes much more than just tuning. During each visit, your piano receives a fine tuning, action regulation and voicing touch-ups, light cleaning, and minor repairs. It’s a complete care package designed to help your piano sound great and perform its best.
What if my piano hasn’t been tuned in years? Can it be fixed?
Absolutely. My Catch Up Piano Care Service is for pianos that are far out of tune or haven’t been maintained in a long time. This extended service includes two tunings and additional time to bring your piano back into shape. Pianos that haven’t been maintained regularly often need more than one tuning to stabilize their pitch so they can hold it properly again.
Will I need a follow-up service if my piano has been neglected for a long time?
Possibly. If it has been many years since your piano was last tuned, an additional follow-up service a few weeks later may be needed to help your piano’s tuning remain stable over time.
How long does a piano tuning take?
Since I offer comprehensive piano care, I typically spend more time with your piano than many other technicians. My Five Point Piano Tune Up takes about 2 hours. For pianos that need more attention—like those covered under my Catch Up Piano Care Service—appointments usually last around 3 hours. This helps ensure I have enough time to care for both the sound and touch of your piano.
Do you work on digital or electric pianos?
Yes! I’m one of the few piano technicians in the Twin Cities who works on both acoustic and digital pianos. Please get in touch to discuss what kind of digital piano you have and how I can help.
Do you offer piano repairs or restoration work?
Yes. I handle most minor repairs during each visit, and I’m happy to schedule a service appointment if something needs attention between tunings. I also take on more involved projects for grand and upright pianos such as action rebuilding, installing new hammers, keytop replacement, and repairing damage that occurred during a move.
What areas do you serve?
I'm based in Eden Prairie and proudly serve Minneapolis, St. Paul, and the greater Twin Cities, including Minnetonka, Edina, Chanhassen, Chaska, and nearby neighborhoods. If you're not sure if your neighborhood is in my service area, please just get in touch.
What forms of payment do you accept?
I accept cash, checks, and credit cards. Payment is due at the time of service.
How do I schedule an appointment?
You can schedule online anytime or contact me directly. I’ll help you find a time that works for you and make sure you get the right service for your piano—whether you're in Eden Prairie, Minneapolis, or elsewhere in the Twin Cities.
